TOWN OF SHEFFIELD INVITATION FOR BIDS The Town of Sheffield is seeking bids for paving of Sheffield-Egremont Road. This includes approximately 32,000 square yards of 2" cold planing, approximately 3,550 tons of 2" 9.5mm finish course, and approximately 2,300 gallons of asphalt emulsion for tack coat. The estimated project cost is $500,000-575,000 All work is to be completed by November 1, 2026. All materials and workmanship must meet MassDOT specifications. Bid Documents and Specifications are available by calling the Select Board's office (413-229-7000, Ext. 152), Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Bids in sealed, opaque envelopes shall be marked "SHEFFIELD-EGREMONT ROAD PAVING 2026" and delivered to the Select Board's Office, Town Hall, 21 Depot Square, Sheffield, MA 01257 on or before September 9, 2026 at 2:00 PM, at which time they will be publicly opened and read aloud. Bid packages will contain information on how to attend the bid opening. The Awarding Authority is the Select Board. Each general bid shall be accompanied by a security or bond in the amount of 5% (percent) of the bid price. The successful bidder must furnish a 100% performance bond and 100% payment bond. The minority employee percentage rate to be applied to this project will not be less than 5% (percent) in each class. Wage rates are subject to the minimum wage rates as per M.G.L. Chapter 149 Section 26 to 27F, inclusive. No bidder may withdraw their bid for a period of thirty days after the actual date of opening of the bids. The contractor must be pre-qualified by MassDOT. MassDOT prequalification of contractors with a class of work as, Pavement Surfacing, for the project with an estimated value of $500,000-575,000 will be required. Only bidders who are pre-qualified will be able to receive the bid package. Those who are not pre-qualified may obtain a bid package for a fee of $50, refundable only upon becoming pre-qualified. The Town of Sheffield reserves the right to reject any and all bids, to waive minor informalities or irregularities in any bid, and to make an award in any manner consistent with the law and deemed to be in the best interests of the Town.
