TOWN OF STAMFORD Code of Ethics Investigation and Enforcement Ordinance In accordance with 24 VSA Section 2291 (16) and 24 VSA Section 4421, the Select Board of the Town of Stamford adopted the Code of Ethics Investigation and Enforcement Ordinance on July 17, 2025. The purpose of this ordinance is to enact procedures for the investigation of complaints that allege a violation of the Vermont Municipal Code of Ethics and to provide methods of enforcement and available remedies. Said Ordinance includes the sections: Authority, Purpose, Definitions, Complaints, Enforcement, Appeals, Record Keeping, Other Laws, Severability and Effective Date. Citizens may require a Permissive Referendum ? that is, a vote on the ordinance ? at the annual or a special town meeting by means of a petition signed by not less than 5% of the qualified voters of the town and presented to the Select Board or town clerk within 44 days following the date the ordinance was adopted. The Select Board shall schedule the vote within 60 days from the date the petition is received. The Ordinance will become effective on September 15, 2025 unless a petition is filed.
