City of Pittsfield Building Maintenance Department Notice to All Students, their Parents, or Legal Guardians, Educational Staff, Parent Teacher Organizations, Custodial and Maintenance Staff, And all other School Building Occupants. Notification of Asbestos 3-year Inspections, Periodic Surveillance and Availability of Management Plan In compliance with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA). In the fall of 1988, all the Pittsfield Public Schools were inspected to locate and identify the presence of asbestos containing building materials. (ACBM) At that time Management Plans were developed to keep a file of those findings. The EPA requires that inspections of the asbestos materials be conducted every Three years by licensed asbestos inspectors. All schools were recently inspected on February 19, 2025. The most recent six-month periodic surveillance was completed on August 18, 2024. The results of these inspections and surveillances along with any asbestos related work are on file in the school's Management Plan. The Plans are on file in each school administrative office and may be viewed during regular school hours. Copies of the plans are also filed at the City of Pittsfield Building Maintenance Department.
