Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection Division of Wetlands and Waterways Major Projects and Policy Unit 100 Cambridge Street, Suite 900, Boston, MA 02114 Public Notice Pursuant to 33 U.S.C. 1341 and M.G.L. c. 21 26 - 53, notice is given of a Water Quality Certification application for Statewide Utility Operations and Maintenance Activities by New England Power Company, Massachusetts Electric Company, Nantucket Electric Company, New England Hydro-Transmission Electric Company, and Boston Gas Company (collectively referred to as National Grid), 170 Data Drive, Waltham, MA 02451. National Grid performs maintenance, repair, and replacement of their above- and belowground utilities as well as repair and maintenance of related utility facilities, access roads and routes to these facilities along their existing rights-of-way. This application consists of a request for comprehensive authorization of activities resulting in the discharge of fill material associated with routine utility maintenance activities that are authorized under the U.S. Army Corps of Nationwide Permits. National Grid is seeking comprehensive WQC for permanent fill associated with utility maintenance and for temporary construction matting whether or not the matting is deployed for activities exempt from review under the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act.
